Meet Gunther: The Unstoppable Veteran
Model: 2009 BMW F800GS (Dark Magnesium Grey)
While the newer bikes in the fleet shine with modern electronics, Gunther is for the rider who values mechanical soul and "analog" grit. This 2009 legend is the bike that defined the middleweight adventure class. Dressed in a stealthy Dark Magnesium Grey, Gunther is a tough, battle-hardened explorer that feels right at home in the deepest, most remote corners of Shikoku.
The Soul of the "Rindo" Road
Gunther was built before bikes became "rolling computers." He offers a direct, raw connection to the terrain that modern bikes often filter out:
The "Boxer-Twin" Sound: Gunther’s parallel-twin engine uses a unique firing order that mimics the legendary rumble of BMW’s bigger Boxer engines. As you Echo through the stone tunnels of the Iya Valley, Gunther provides a soundtrack that is pure mechanical music.
Torque Where You Need It: He doesn't need high revs to be happy. Gunther is a "tractor" on the trails, providing steady, predictable power that helps you crawl up the steep, mossy inclines of Mt. Tsurugi with total confidence.
The Lightweight Heavyweight
Despite his "Big Bike" presence, Gunther is surprisingly agile when the road gets narrow and technical:
The 21-Inch Trailblazer: Equipped with a true off-road 21-inch front wheel, Gunther doesn't just ride over the road; he conquers it. When the pavement on the UFO Line gives way to gravel or broken asphalt, Gunther stays planted and precise, letting you focus on the 360-degree mountain views.
Balanced for the Twisties: Like his younger brother Hans, Gunther carries his fuel under the seat. This keeps his center of gravity incredibly low, meaning he tips into the coastal hairpins of the Okayama Blue Line with a lightness that will surprise you.
Why Choose Gunther?
Gunther is for the purist. He is for the rider who wants a bike that feels like a tool, not a toy. He’s the perfect choice for a multi-day expedition where you want to carry heavy luggage across the Shimanami Kaido bridges but still have the mechanical "teeth" to dive into a muddy forest path to find a hidden waterfall.
He’s grey, he’s gritty, and he’s seen it all. Is your story next?
