Meet Dusty: The Alpine Scrambler
Model: KTM 390 Adventure (Electric Orange)
If you’re the kind of rider who sees a "Road Closed" sign and thinks "Well, let's just see how closed it actually is," meet Dusty. While the CB400Xs are busy being smooth and sensible, Dusty is a high-strung Austrian athlete in a bright orange tracksuit. He’s the lightest, grittiest, and most "up-for-it" bike in our garage.
The "Rindo" Specialist
Japan is crisscrossed with Rindo—forest roads that often trade asphalt for gravel, mud, and fallen cedar needles.
The Dusty Experience: This is where Dusty stops being a motorcycle and starts being a mountain goat. With his high ground clearance and specialized "Off-road" ABS, he turns the sketchy back-routes of Tokushima into his personal rally stage. He doesn't just ride over bumps; he eats them for breakfast and asks for seconds.
The Shortcut King of the Iya Valley
In the Iya Valley, the "scenic route" usually involves roads so narrow you have to breathe in just to fit through.
The Dusty Experience: Dusty is a "point-and-shoot" weapon. Weighing significantly less than the big multi-cylinder bikes, he’s incredibly easy to manhandle. If you find a hidden track leading to a secluded waterfall or a 1,000-year-old vine bridge, Dusty is already halfway there while the bigger bikes are still trying to find a place to U-turn.
Single-Cylinder "Braap"
Dusty is powered by a punchy 373cc single-cylinder engine that has a very distinct, mechanical heartbeat.
The Dusty Experience: He’s got "character" (which means he vibrates enough to give you a free hand massage on the highway). But the moment you hit the dirt or a tight set of switchbacks on the Shikoku Karst, that "thumpy" low-end torque makes him feel like a much bigger bike. He’s not here to cruise; he’s here to work.
The Aggressive Explorer
With his sharp lines and "Ready to Race" KTM styling, Dusty doesn't do "understated."
The Dusty Experience: You won't blend into the mist with this one. Whether parked at a coastal 7-Eleven or a mountain shrine, Dusty looks like he’s just finished a stage of the Dakar Rally. He features high-end electronics usually reserved for liter-bikes, giving you the confidence to push into the wilder parts of Southern Japan.
Why Choose Dusty?
Dusty is for the restless adventurer. He’s for the rider who wears dirt-bike boots and thinks "paved roads" are just the boring bits between the trails. He is light, loud, and the most fun you can have on 400cc when the pavement ends.
The trail is getting messy and Dusty is starting to grin. You ready to get a little dirty?
